ISSAQUAH, Wash. – Costco has announced a substantial pay increase for its hourly workers, raising wages to over $30 per hour for most store employees across the United States. The move, which took effect on January 31, 2025, comes as the retail giant continues to negotiate with unionized workers at several California locations.

The pay increase for non-union employees has drawn varied responses. Many workers are pleased with the raise, but union members represented by the Teamsters are demanding that their contracts include similar increases. Around 18,000 union members, mainly in California, are still awaiting a resolution in their negotiations with Costco.

"With these changes, we believe our hourly wages and benefits will continue to far outpace others in the retail industry," a memo signed by CEO Ron Vachris stated.
