BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Walmart is closing its corporate office in Charlotte, N.C., resulting in job cuts and relocations to Bentonville and California. While Walmart did not disclose the number of affected employees, reports suggest the cuts could be in the hundreds.

On Tuesday, Walmart Chief People Officer Donna Morris announced the changes in an internal email to U.S. employees and said the changes aim to enhance collaboration, innovation, and efficiency. With the opening of Walmart's new corporate campus in Bentonville, the company is also broadening its footprint in Sunnyvale, California; Bellevue, Washington; Hoboken, New Jersey; and New York City.

The Walmart Corporate Campus in Arkansas sits on 350 acres.

“Our value and culture are strategic differentiators for us as a company, and they are fostered by being together. We’ve already seen the benefits of having more teams working together in person, and today we are sharing another step that will help accelerate our momentum,” Morris wrote in the memo, which was given by Walmart to Talk Business & Politics.

Employees from Hoboken, Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto corporate offices are also being asked to relocate to Bentonville or Sunnyvale. Some roles have been eliminated as part of the restructuring, though Walmart has not provided a timeline for the job relocations.

Walmart is offering severance pay and relocation assistance to support affected employees. In May 2024, the company announced that employees would need to transition to Bentonville or Sunnyvale and that all remote workers were expected to return to the office full-time.
