GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. – Dollar General has promoted two executives to new roles as it seeks to support its ongoing expansion and the operation of its existing stores.
Steve Deckard, formerly executive vice president of store operations and development, has transitioned to a new role focused on broadening the company’s footprint and leading strategic initiatives. In his place, Tracey Herrmann has been promoted to executive vice president of store operations. Both appointments are effective immediately, the company said.
Deckard, a veteran of Dollar General since 2006, has played a significant role in the company’s growth over the past 19 years. In his most recent role, he oversaw Dollar General’s retail operations, including Mi Súper Dollar General in Mexico, corporate store operations, asset protection, and real estate. He previously led the company’s international expansion into Mexico and was instrumental in the development of pOpshelf as executive vice president of growth and emerging markets. Deckard has also held leadership positions in financial planning and asset protection.
“During Steve’s more than 19 years at Dollar General, his experience has spanned store operations, asset protection, real estate, financial planning as well as growth and emerging markets,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s chief executive officer. “As he played a critical role in the strategic expansion into Mexico as our first international market, I am confident his extensive knowledge of our business and its operations make him uniquely qualified for this new role as executive vice president of strategy and development.”
Taking over as executive vice president of store operations, Herrmann will now oversee the management of Dollar General’s more than 20,000 stores across 48 states. She has been with the company for 12 years, most recently serving as senior vice president of store operations, where she managed three divisions in the southeast. Herrmann has also held senior leadership roles in merchandising, pricing, and operations, in addition to leading the strategy and operations for the company’s pOpshelf stores as senior vice president of channel innovation.
“Tracey's drive for operational excellence and innovation during her impressive 12-year career at Dollar General will ensure our continued evolution in an increasingly competitive retail landscape,” Vasos said. “Her commitment to our mission coupled with her dedication to the brand will help deliver the best store experiences for our customers and employees.”
These leadership shifts come as Dollar General continues its aggressive expansion strategy and aims to strengthen its position in the retail sector, according to the company, which said its investments in growth, innovation, and operational efficiency reflect its commitment to providing convenience and value to customers nationwide.
